Iceland
July 19-27, 2025
Coro Mundi will be holding our next international festival in Iceland in the summer of 2025! We will be in residence in Reykjavik from July 19 to 27, rehearsing and performing beautiful choral music. Our homebase for rehearsals, and the venue for one of our three performances, will be Harpa, one of Reykjavík's most striking landmarks and a center of cultural and social life in the heart of the city.
Featured on the program will be the world premiere of Sigurður Sævarsson’s newly composed Sicut Cervus, commissioned for this occasion by Coro Mundi. The program will also include the Iceland premiere of Alex Berko’s Sacred Place, a six movement work for choir, piano, violin and cello. The composer notes:
Sacred Place is an ecological service that connects the old with the new, the sacred with the secular, and the individual with their community. […] the text is made up of various writers and thinkers who speak of the environment as a place of safety, comfort, and beauty. Written for SATB choir, piano, violin, and cello, the six-movement piece is at times a meditation and at times an impassioned prayer for the world we inhabit and share.
